Dental Fillings: Preserving Your Smile’s Natural Beauty

Your Teeth: A Biologic Work of Art

At Dental Excellence of Green, we understand the importance of preserving the natural beauty and function of your teeth. Our dental fillings are meticulously crafted to replace damage and restore the biologic look and function of your teeth and bite. Our Solea laser is the star of fillings!

Why fillings?

If your diagnostic appointment reveals holes or soft areas of your teeth, you may want to get them cleaned and restored to prevent further damage to the tooth structure and protect the nerve of the tooth. Most times decay can be detected early where the damage is minimal if you are frequent with routine checkups. Other times the decay and invade your tooth and body creating an infection.

When treated early, it is more likely that our Solea laser is more likely to clean your tooth without anesthetic or shots, which is often the case with younger patients and routine adult cavities. This is the case about 50% of the time in our experience with the Solea laser. Other times, patients can have sensitive teeth that require numbing to complete the cleaning/removal process.

What is the procedure?

First, we will discuss what you can experience with our Solea laser and no numbing and agree upon numbing the tooth ahead of time. From there, we make a decision if you would like to have your tooth or teeth numb. Then we will clean the defects in your tooth and isolate the tooth for the filling(s). The bonding and filling process will be completed, and the biological shape of your tooth will be shaped and polished. Common complications of the procedure may include: – Post operative sensitivity most commonly due to a bite issue or nerve issue. – Lingering sensitivity to biting or cold – Nerve issue also known as pulpitis It is important to follow up if sensitivity continues beyond 1 week.

What is in your fillings?

Modern filling materials are bonded composite resins that are tooth colored. While the ADA supports the use of Mercury in fillings, it is a known neurotoxin that is scientifically shown to cause more serious health complications. In fact, it is required to have special filters at every dental practice specifically for the removal of amalgam before disposal to minimize public health risks. Some insurance companies will only reimburse for amalgam filling fees based on your policy. If you would prefer Mercury-based fillings, you would need to visit another office.
